Leonard Fournette has been on the free agent market since he was released by the Tampa Bay Bucs back in March. It appears his wait may be over.
Fournette is working out for the Patriots on Wednesday as the free-agent running back seeks to find his next NFL home, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The veteran running back has spent the last three of his six NFL seasons with the Buccaneers, helping Tampa Bay defeat the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV to end the 2020 season. Despite his run with the team, the Buccaneers released Fournette in February ahead of the new league year.
The Patriots already have third-year man Rhamondre Stevenson, who topped 1,400 scrimmage yards in 2022. However, they did lose Damien Harris in free agency and released injury-prone former Jaguars starter James Robinson after three months.
New England has reportedly been considering backfield reinforcements and Fournette may fit the mold.
