Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sent a letter to LeBron James thanking him for his efforts protesting systemic racism and social injustice.
“Four years ago on August 14, 2016, I began protesting against systemic racism and social injustice,” Kaepernick wrote to James. “Truth is what I sought. Solidarity is what you showed me. Love is what moves us forward.
“Thank you for staying true.”
The Los Angeles Lakers guard/forward responded back to him via his Instagram story:
During the 2016 NFL season, Kaepernick either sat or kneeled during the national anthem in silent protest. Many athletes from different sports have followed in his footsteps in the year’s since, but nobody has paid the price like Kaepernick, who hasn’t been in the NFL since the 2016 season ended.
The deaths of Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain and many other Black people who have been killed by police have renewed protests in 2020, with NBA players kneeling before games and played on courts with a “Black Lives Matter” logo at half court.
