The NFL is taking some criticism online over its flight assignments for the prospects attending the Scouting Combine this week.
The event has kicked off at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, with players having flown in and on-field drills set for Thursday.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk has put the league on blast for not flying all of the players first class, claiming that one very tall player was sardined in a middle coach seat.
“The NFL flies prospects to the Scouting Combine in coach. We’ve heard about one player who is 6’5″ and 275 pounds — and who was shoehorned into a middle seat in coach,” he wrote.
A middle seat is uncomfortable for the average person, let alone a player of the aforementioned height and size.
Of course, first class is pretty expensive, yet the NFL could easily afford it and should have given consideration to the bigger players.

“But the NFL is being cheap on this because it can be,” Florio added. “Because the prospects will take it. Because it’s an honor and a privilege to be expected to deal with everything that goes into the process of ultimately being told where they’ll be required to spend the first four or five or six or even seven years of their careers.”
Given the advent of NIL, some players could afford to upgrade their seats or even pay for their flights, but everyone isn’t spoilt for choice that way.
