OJ Simpson, one of the most controversial sports figures in American history, passed away last week at the age of 76.
The former NFL running back and actor lost his battle with prostate cancer, having gone into remission before it returned. He passed on after being visited by family and friends, but not much is known about his final days as he made everyone sign non-disclosure agreements.
Malcolm LaVerge, Simpson’s attorney, is now in charge of his estate. The lawyer revealed that the erstwhile football superstar behaved normally a week before he died.
“He was awake, alert and chilling,” LaVergne told the Associated Press (H/T CBS News).

“He’s on the couch … drinking a beer and watching TV. And so that was the last time we had effective back-and-forth conversations. He’s usually the one who keeps me up on the news … so we were just catching up on the news then.“
According to LaVergne, Simpson’s health began declining steadily on April 5. The last time he visited him, Simpson could only ask for water and watch golf on television.

OJ Simpson was cremated this Wednesday, having passed away on April 10.
His family announced his passing on social media, revealing he was with his children and grandchildren during his last moments.
Simpson lived out the rest of his life as a polarizing figure after going on trial for the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman, in 1994. He was eventually acquitted but ended up serving a nine-year prison term for armed robbery and kidnapping before his release in 2017.
The ex-running back was active on social media during his final years, commenting on sports and other significant events. Simpson joined rappers Cam’Ron and Mase as a football expert on their ‘It Is What It Is’ show on a weekly basis during the 2023 NFL season.
