One of the more polarizing prospects of the 2024 NFL Draft reportedly boosted his stock with an excellent showing at the Combine last week.
Speaking on ESPN’s “NFL Live” program on Tuesday, analyst Jordan Reid stated that Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is among the prospects who “helped himself the most” at this year’s combine.
“You talk about somebody that was throwing absolute lasers on Saturday night,” Reid said. “He made every single throw possible.”
Reid explained that Penix Jr. remains a wild card since he fought through numerous injuries during his college career. But Penix Jr. stayed healthy in 2023 and led the Huskies to a national championship appearance, where they fell to the Michigan Wolverines.
For what it’s worth, Reid has Penix Jr. going 44th overall to the Las Vegas Raiders in his latest mock draft. Of course, he could always go earlier (potentially even in round one) depending on how the board plays out .

USC’s Caleb Williams is the heavy front-runner to go first overall in the draft, with North Carolina’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels regarded as the next two QBs. Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy and Oregon’s Bo Nix are also projected by most to be mid-to-late first-round draft picks.
Needless to say, it’ll be fascinating to see which team takes a chance on this boom-or-bust prospect next month.
In his final year of college football, Penix Jr. threw for 4,903 yards, 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while adding a trio of rushing scores.
