It’s not common for there to be concern surrounding the coaching staff of the New England Patriots. After all, this is a team that’s often considered to be one of the most well-coached franchises in sports today, thanks in large part to the presence of the hooded genius, Bill Belichick.
But the 2022 offseason has a different feeling than the last 22 offseasons under the Belichick regime. The team has moved on from longtime offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who accepted a job as the head coach with the Las Vegas Raiders. That’s right. Just a few weeks ago it was being reported that players within the organization were concerned with the team’s “offensive coaching staff” — or lack thereof, if you will.
It’s rather unusual for a team to go this far into the offseason without hiring someone to fill a role as important as the offensive coordinator’s position. However, Belichick hasn’t seemed too concerned. In fact, the Pats’ head coach even suggested that the team may not hire one at all when he spoke with reporters during league meetings earlier this offseason.
And based on the most recent report from Patriots insider Henry McKenna, it sounds like Belichick is sticking to that plan. According to McKenna, Bill will oversee the entire offense, with Joe Judge working as the QBs coach and focusing on the passing game, while Matt Patricia mans the ground game while coaching the offensive line.

Whether this will affect Bill’s ability as one of the game’s greatest defensive masterminds remains to be seen. But if there’s any coach out there who can adequately manage both sides of the ball, it has got to be Bill Belichick.
