The Cleveland Browns are reportedly still trying to trade Baker Mayfield to anybody who will take him off their hands.
The Browns have desperately been attempting to offload the former first overall pick ever since trading for Deshaun Watson, and the latest report has him headed to one of the NFC’s quarterback-needy teams.
The Carolina Panthers have been named as a possible landing spot for the Browns QB. Cleveland.com reported that the two sides “are still talking about Baker Mayfield.”
“I’m hearing the Browns and Carolina are still talking about Baker Mayfield. No matter what Carolina claims, the Panthers must know Sam Darnold is not close to the answer of being their quarterback,” Terry Pluto reports.
After two days of brief trade talks earlier this year, the Carolina Panthers seemed to have taken themselves out of the Baker Mayfield sweepstakes when both sides couldn’t agree on how to divide his $18.8 million salary. The Panthers would go on to trade into the third round to draft Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral. But they may not be done just yet…
As of right now, the best offer the Browns are receiving for Mayfield is said to be from the Panthers.

Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports adds that the Panthers would like to get something done now so that Mayfield could get some time with the team during this week’s minicamp.
It’s still unclear if the Browns and Panthers are close to a deal, because Mayfield’s salary for 2022 is still a big obstacle. Mayfield is due $18.858 million this season after the Browns picked up his fifth-year option last spring.
Injuries largely hindered Mayfield’s play in 2021. In 14 games, Mayfield completed just over 60% of his passes for 3,010 yards and 17 touchdowns along with 13 interceptions. He went 6-8 in his 14 starts as the Browns missed the playoffs with an 8-9 record.
