The Las Vegas Raiders have added a notable name to the secondary for their mid-season playoff push.
Per CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Raiders have claimed former New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones off of waivers. The soon-to-be 26-year-old was waived by the Pats on Monday, one day after their Week 10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt, Germany.
Jones now joins a Las Vegas team coming off a second straight win under interim head coach Antonio Pierce and GM Champ Kelly. Pierce and Kelly replaced Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler, respectively, following the Raiders’ Week 8 road loss to the Detroit Lions.
New England drafted Jones in the fourth round (121st overall) in 2022. The 5-foot-11 corner had two interceptions, six pass defenses and one forced fumble in his rookie year while allowing just a 64.8 passer rating when targeted, per Pro Football Reference.
But Jones struggled to regain that star-like form in the five games he suited up for in 2023 prior to getting waived. Per PFR, Jones allowed an 81.8 percent completion percentage when targeted and an opposing passer rating of 106.1.
Jones gets a much-needed fresh start on a vastly improved Raiders defense that sits 13th in scoring and eighth against the pass.
