The Las Vegas Raiders have, by all indications, opted to move on from Derek Carr, having announced that the quarterback will be benched for the rest of the season – though they are not quite out of playoff contention yet.
Jarrett Stidham will be starting the last two games of the regular season but the Raiders will look to head in a new direction in the offseason. Though, who knows? Stidham might just perform well enough to let them know that they don’t need to bring in a big-name QB.
Of course, the possibility of Carr returning next season still looms, especially if Davante Adams has a say. But it’s unlikely we’ll see the three-time Pro Bowl star in a Vegas uniform in 2023. The Raiders are believed to have benched Carr in order to preserve him for a trade, which has led to plenty of questions over who will come in as a replacement.
Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo’s names have been floated as they will both be free agents at the end of the season and both have ties to Josh McDaniels. But the Raiders are more likely to focus on the trade market and acquire a QB who has some knowledge of the coach’s offense. According to Bleacher Report’s Moe Moe, that signal caller could be Mac Jones.
“I have an alternative plan if Derek Carr were to walk away or if they wanted to move on from Derek Carr, and a lot of Raiders fans aren’t going to like to hear this but I would acquire Mac Jones from the Patriots,” Moton said during a recent episode of Silver and Black Today. “I would acquire Mac Jones and draft a quarterback.”

Replacing Carr with Jones would probably not leave many Raiders fans pleased. Despite Carr’s struggles this season, he’s clearly the better QB. But, as Moe points out, the New England Patriots youngster has been getting his instructions from a defensive coach.
When McDaniels was the offensive coordinator in New England last year, Jones made it to the Pro Bowl, so the move could actually make sense for Vegas.
Jones is having a very different type of season, yet the Patriots are unlikely to want to trade their QB. For one, they used a first-round pick on him. Also, Patricia might not be the one calling plays next season, with Bill O’Brien rumored to be poised to return.
The Patriots are under no obligation to trade Jones right now, but they could go for Brady in free agency.
