One way or another, Aaron Rodgers’ looming announcement on his football future will drastically alter the NFL landscape.
It’s been nearly two months since Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers’ were eliminated from playoff contention with a heartbreaking Week 18 home loss to the Detroit Lions. Fast forward to the present, and the football world is still waiting an announcement from the four-time MVP. Is it retirement, a trade or a return to Green Bay?
Rodgers completed his “Darkness Retreat” last week and hopes to make a decision very soon. Until then, trade rumors centering around the future Hall of Famer will continue to run rampant.
Over at Oddschecker, the Las Vegas Raiders are listed as the -200 favorites to trade for the future Hall of Famer. The New York Jets are second on that list at +140, followed by the Tennessee Titans at +900.
The Raiders released veteran Derek Carr last month after he refused to waive his no-trade clause, putting them in dire need of a new starting quarterback. The Jets recently met with Carr and are widely expected to be a player in the veteran quarterback market, so they definitely make sense as a potential landing spot for Rodgers.
Rodgers, a 10-time Pro Bowler, completed 64.6 percent of his pass attempts for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns against 12 interceptions last season. A year ago, he signed a three-year contract extension with the Packers worth $150.8 million.
At the time, it felt as though Rodgers was committed to finishing his career as a Packer. Only time will tell if the two sides stick to that promise.
