The Las Vegas Raiders’ announcement as it pertains to benching Derek Carr was sure to start the rumor mill spinning and, as expected’ speculation over the quarterback’s future is now rife.
On Wednesday, Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels dropped a bombshell, indicating his intention to shut Carr down for the remainder of the season and replace him with Jarrett Stidham.
It’s since been reported that, apart from wanting to evaluate Stidham, the Raiders also want to preserve Carr for a trade and believe his stock will rise on the back of the upcoming Super Bowl.
It’s quite likely that Carr has already played his last game for the Raiders so it will be interesting to see where he ends up. ESPN insider Dan Orlovsky has suggested that the veteran QB could be set for a move to either the New York Jets or Carolina Panthers.
Both teams have been struggling with their quarterbacks for a few years now. The Jets are thought to be ready to move on from Zach Wilson, despite selecting him with the No.2 overall pick in 2021.

The Panthers had hoped to resurrect Baker Mayfield’s career but it’s the Los Angeles Rams who look to have succeeded at doing that, while Sam Darnold is still far from being the model of consistency.
Of course, Orlovsky’s theory will be tested soon enough. In the meantime, we’ll see how good (or bad) Stidham can be as the main guy.
