The Lamar Jackson saga is one which should command plenty of attention this offseason. And why shouldn’t it? One of the best quarterbacks of this generation is set to be a free agent; everyone will be monitoring the situation.
Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have failed to agree on a new deal at every turn, but the team has the option of placing the franchise tag on him. In fact, it would come as a huge shock if they do not as the move will allow them to negotiate a long-term deal for the QB on an exclusive basis.
The circumstances surrounding Jackson could have far-reaching implications as he could set a new bar for NFL quarterbacks, more so if he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
PFF has projected a five-year deal worth $260 million for the star signal-caller, with $208 million to be guaranteed.
There aren’t many teams in the league that would be able to take such a cap hit. But, should the player become available, there will be a scramble as teams would do whatever’s necessary to get him on their books. A tag-and-trade similar to what the Green Bay Packers did with Davante Adams would probably work in this scenario.
As such, the Indianapolis Colts have been rumored as a team to watch where Jackson is concerned (via NFL Analysis Network). The team has been very inconsistent at quarterback since Andrew Luck retired in 2019 and they are in search of a top player for the position. Jackson would definitely make a good acquisition.

The quarterback would be thrust into a squad ready to contend as the Colts had the best offensive line in the NFL before injuries forced a change two seasons ago. The team also has several good players who would likely flourish around Jackson. Michael Pittman Jr. would make a splendid target, while Jonathan Taylor was one of the best running backs around before he fell victim to injury himself.
