Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield have been very close since their days back in college.
However, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback had no clue that Baker felt a way about his mother. The Carolina Panthers quarterback told a story about an encounter with her that left him intimidated.
“She told me stories, for me to get my ass down to Florida and work out with him and I politely declined after a few beverages at the Heisman ceremony,” Mayfield said. “She’s intimidating. There’s a reason why he’s so tough.”
Jackson was asked about Mayfield’s story and came away extremely shocked.
Mayfield and Jackson competed against each other for four years in the AFC North before the Browns parted ways with their QB after trading for Deshaun Watson. The two will have a chance to catch up and speak about this story when they face one another this Sunday in Baltimore.
The first pick of the 2018 draft was named the starter after an MRI determined P.J. Walker suffered a high ankle sprain in Thursday night’s 25-15 victory over the Atlanta Falcons that left Carolina only two games back of Tampa Bay in the NFC South.

It will be Mayfield’s first start since a Week 5 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in which he was replaced by Walker because of a high ankle sprain. He remained Walker’s backup the past four games despite being healthy enough to play.
Mayfield is in the last year of his rookie contract.
Mayfield’s only playing time in the last five weeks came in the second half of a Nov. 6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He completed 14 of 20 pass attempts for 155 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions against the Bengals for a season-high 83.4 Total QBR.
He needs to show the team something to give them the confidence to keep him as the starter.
