Amid increased pressure on Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder to change the controversial name, we have received some very strong and interesting takes on the situation.
None was better than what came from Jeanie Buss.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers owner completely dismissed the argument that changing the name would erase the team’s history.
“The argument I’ve heard is ‘if we change the team name we lose our history,’ Buss wrote. “My reply: it’s HUMAN BEINGS who created the memories and won the games, NOT a LOGO. A change in name will not alter what Art Monk, Dexter Manley, Darrell Green, Doug Williams, etc. means to the fans.”
After Nike removed all of their team gear from their website and FedEx released a statement, the Redskins now do not have a choice but to change the name going forward.
On Friday, the Redskins sent out a press release stating that they will officially begin the review process for the teams name.

In the statement, team owner Dan Snyder said that this process “allows the team to take into account not only the proud tradition and history of the franchise, but also input from our alumni, the organization, sponsors, the NFL, and the local community it is proud to represent on and off the field.”
Change is indeed coming.
