The Los Angeles Rams may not pose a threat to the San Francisco 49ers in the standings this season, but that doesn’t mean they still can’t spoil things for their division rival.
According to sources close to Baker Mayfield’s agent, it is expected that the Rams will win their waiver claim and be awarded the former first overall pick.
The Rams were fourth in the NFL’s waiver priority list heading into today, and it appears as though neither of the three teams ahead of them have placed a claim for Baker Mayfield.
It’s been a tumultuous five years in the NFL for the first overall pick of 2018. After four up-and-down years with the Cleveland Browns, Baker was sent to the Carolina Panthers this offseason when the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson in a blockbuster deal with the Texans.
Mayfield was unable to find his groove in Carolina, however, as he struggled and was eventually benched in favor of P.J. Walker.
Expected to be the third-stringer behind Walker and Sam Darnold going forward, Mayfield and the Panthers came to a mutual agreement to go their separate ways on Monday.
