It’s been revealed that a Los Angeles Chargers player has been suspended for a whopping 17 games.
The list of players who worked out for NFL teams was made a public disclosure this Tuesday, while a list of suspended players was also unveiled, revealing those who were hoping to prove their worth on the big stage and the ones who will be out for, possibly, an entire season.
One Name Stuck Out
Ryan Smith was among the latter. The veteran defensive back has been suspended for 17 weeks of the 2023/24 regular season, per a report from NFL Insider Aaron Wilson. This means Smith is set to go for an entire NFL campaign without playing.
At this point, the reason for Smith’s suspension is unknown. It’s worth noting, though, that the former North Carolina star has been suspended in the past, with violations of the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy cited as the cause.
Smith was signed by the Chargers in March last year and was placed on the injured reserve in September, before being activated in October. Unfortunately, he tore an ACL in Week 9 and was moved to the season-ending injured reserve in November.
The 29-year-old joined the Indianapolis Colts this September but was released a month later. He was also part of the practice squad in Tampa Bay before being released on December 6.
