Kyle Shanahan is giving the 49ers fan base hope.
Jimmy Garoppolo’s left foot fracture might not be as severe as initially feared.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters via a conference call on Monday and updated Jimmy G’s condition, which was initially reported as him missing the remainder of the season.
“They were talking about it last night but they’re starting to believe that it isn’t, so that’s good news, but it’s not all done. They have to finalize it so we don’t want to give you any false information.”
The 49ers will await confirmation from a specialist about whether Garoppolo’s fracture is a Lisfranc (midfoot) fracture or something with a shorter recovery time.
Baker Mayfield emerged Monday as a veteran option once the Carolina Panthers waived him as Shanahan complimented the 2018 No. 1 overall draft pick by the Cleveland Browns. Shanahan said of Mayfield. “I’ve always been a fan of his, but I feel real good about our players. We’ll look into everything but I feel good with where we’re at right now.”
