San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan has taken a parting shot at quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the wake of the player’s move to Vegas.
Garoppolo spent six seasons with the Niners and took them to the Super Bowl in the 2019 season. but Shanahan made it clear that the player would not be returning in 2023. The 31-year-old has since signed a three-year deal with the Raiders, with Derek Carr now with the New Orleans Saints after getting shut down toward the end of last season.
Shanahan and Garoppolo seemed like they had a good working relationship over the years, yet with the QB off to pastures new, there’s nothing left to be said between the two men.
Asked at the annual NFL owners’ meeting if he’d spoken to Jimmy G since the move to Vegas, the head coach revealed he had not, throwing a bit of shade as part of his reply.
“That would be impossible,” he said, per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner. “You’ve gotta run into Jimmy to have a conversation with him.”
We can’t be sure how things ended for the QB in San Francisco but it does seem like Shanahan was the one who wanted to move on. And who could blame him given the wealth of options at his disposal?

Garoppolo did very well for the Niners, though, going 38-17 as a starter for the team. He threw for 82 touchdowns and 42 interceptions on 67.6 percent passing in 57 appearances.
While Jimmy G is unlikely to play behind anyone in Vegas next season, things might be interesting for the Niners as Brock Purdy has been given a ringing endorsement for the starting job despite Trey Lance still being around.
