If you asked anyone to name the biggest bust of the 2021 NFL Draft, they’ll either say New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson or former San Francisco 49ers quarterback (and current Cowboys QB) Trey Lance.
But how about if we told you that the man taken just behind those two players was making a strong case for himself.
The narrative in Atlanta ever since they took Kyle Pitts fourth overall was that Arthur Smith and the Falcons coaching staff was not using him properly. Those claims grew especially loud last season, when Pitts was targeted just 59 times in 10 games, resulting in 28 catches for 356 yards and two touchdowns.
And somehow, things have gotten even worse this year, as Pitts has just 11 receptions on 21 targets through the first four weeks of the season.
What’s the deal? Are the Falcons simply wasting this man’s immense talent? Quite the contrary, as a matter of fact.
A new video that’s been making the rounds on social media has finally solved the issue surrounding Pitts’ poor production…and it has everything to do with the tight end himself.
In the video, you can see Pitts struggling to run routes, often falling at the most inopportune time. It’s a bad look for the athletic tight end, as you can’t expect your quarterback to throw you the ball when you’re on the ground every time you come out of a break in your route.

YIKES! Based on this video alone, I think we may all need to stop pointing the finger at the Falcons’ coaching staff.
This explains why Jonnu Smith has suddenly emerged as the Falcons’ top target at the tight end position.
