There’s buzz going around that the Dallas Cowboys could target Atlanta Falcons’ star tight end Kyle Pitts in a trade.
Former Cowboys’ wide receiver Dez Bryant and ex-Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III brought up the Pitts-to-Dallas speculation, and now there are calls among fans for Jerry Jones to make the move.
Don’t get too excited, though, Cowboys fans. NFL Network’s Jane Slater asked an Atlanta source about the Pitts-Cowboys rumors, and their answer was, “LOL. No way.”

You may recall that leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft, there was buzz that Jones wanted to trade up for Pitts. The Florida Gators product, of course, wound up going to the Falcons in the No. 4 spot.
Pitts was regarded as the best tight end prospect in a generation leading up to his NFL arrival. He had a phenomenal rookie year with 68 receptions for 1,026 yards and a touchdown.
Injuries limited Pitts to 10 games las season, however, and he finished with only 356 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Through the club’s first three games in 2023, he has just nine receptions for 100 yards.
Of course, lackluster quarterback play from Marcus Mariota last year didn’t help matters for Pitts. And so far, second-year product Desmond Ridder has struggled to find his rhythm in the passing game.
But at the end of the day, it’s on head coach Arthur Smith and company to find ways to get Pitts more involved in their offense. A player of his caliber should not only be targeted 17 times in three games.
