Pittsburgh Steelers’ linebacker Kwon Alexander was issued a hefty fine over a hit on Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ running back Chase Edmonds in last week’s preseason outing.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Alexander was fined a whopping $43,709 for his hit on Edmonds during last Friday’s Week 1 preseason outing. Pelissero noted that the league is trying to crack down on head-lowering hits.
The Steelers went on to win their first preseason contest 27-17, with third-stringer Mason Rudolph completing seven of 12 pass attempts for 132 yards and a touchdown. Edmonds led all Bucs with 18 rushing yards on six carries.
Tampa Bay signed Edmonds back in March on a one-year deal. Just last month, the Steelers added Alexander to their roster to bolster the linebacker depth.
Edmonds spent his first four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals (2018 to 2021) before joining the Miami Dolphins in 2022. He split last season with the Dolphins and Denver Broncos, finishing with 245 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The 29-year-old Alexander was drafted in the fourth round (124th overall) by the Buccaneers back in 2015. He spent his first four years with the club before signing with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019.
