The Arizona Cardinals have made a surprising release this Tuesday as they have opted to let a starting player go.
The team has announced via their official website that they have released veteran safety K’Von Wallace, who was a noticeable absentee during their Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks over the weekend.
Wallace had played all of the defensive snaps in the five games prior to the aforementioned fixture. And, defensive coordinator Nick Rallis told reporters this week that the decision to keep him out was down to a week-to-week discussion for various roles, while he’s happy with the way the secondary has performed.
“I’ve been pleased with how the secondary has played,” Rallis said. “The way they have played with guys in and out, they’ve played with good continuity together.”
Wallace leaves the Cardinals with 43 tackles, 26 of them solo, as well as an interception. He’s expected to look for a new home once he clears waivers.
The Cards have also placed tight end Zach Ertz back on the injured reserve due to a quadriceps injury, meaning he will miss at least four games.
