Former Arizona Cardinals and Texas Techh head coach Kliff Kingsbury may get another shot at the NFL coaching ranks.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Peter Schrager, the Chicago Bears are interviewing Kingsbury for their head coaching vacancy. As Rapoport noted, Kingsbury is an assistant on the USC Trojans’ staff, and quarterback Caleb Williams just might end up being a Bear in three months’ time.
The Bears hold the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, courtesy of the Carolina Panthers thanks to the move-up for Bryce Young. The Bears have to decide if they want to keep Justin Fields at quarterback or use the top pick on a can’t-miss prospect like Williams or North Carolina’s Drake Maye.
Though head coach Matt Eberflus was retained, the Bears wound up firing offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. Kingsbury, of course, was the head coach of Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech. He also had some success working with Kyler Murray, the first overall pick of 2019, in Arizona.
Kingsbury received plenty of criticism for his in-game management as Arizona’s head coach. But his work with Mahomes and Murray speaks for itself, so he just might get the chance to work with Williams (or Fields) as the Bears’ next OC. Stay tuned.
