Maybe Kirk Herbstreit has been living under a rock for the past 10-20 years, but fans fighting in the stands has been happening forever.
It’s more visible today because everybody has a cell phone ready to record all the acton and upload it to various social media sites that make it go viral. The most recent viral fights started with a Phoenix Suns fan and Denver Nuggets fan getting into a scuffle that made the Phoenix Suns fan a hero for screaming out “Suns in 4.”
On Saturday night, a woman slapped a man during the Steelers-Lions exhibition, sparking her husband to get knocked out.
Last weekend, a Seahawks fan got jumped by two Raiders fans at Allegiant Stadium.
Not to mention, a guy rocking an Aaron Donald jersey getting jumped inside SoFi stadium that was sparked by a woman throwing her drink at him.

Herbstreit called fights between fans “completely unacceptable” in a Twitter post. He also called on the NFL, MLB and NCAA to address the matter.
“Totally agree. This ain’t cute or a “fun” new trend we need because people enjoy videoing this junk and posting it on social media,” Herbstreit said on Twitter. “@NFL@MLB and probably CFB this Fall need to address this swiftly. Completely unacceptable!”
When you combine sports fandom, beer, and aggression — tempers will flare in the stands. The only solution is to have security just about everywhere to limit the fights from getting too out of hand.
