Before the Vikings restructured Kirk Cousins’ contract for the 2023 season, they were reportedly trying to move him elsewhere.
According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, there were rumblings at the NFL Combine about the Vikings speaking with the 49ers.
“Apparently at the Scouting Combine there was some noise among people in the league about Cousins being traded to the 49ers,” Florio said. “That was a hot topic at one point.”
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has raved about Cousins for years. Both of them worked together while in Washington. Florio suggested that San Francisco would’ve sent Trey Lance to Minnesota for Cousins in this hypothetical trade.
The 49ers getting set to have Trey Lance takeover in 2023 after his 2022 season was ended prematurely due to an injury. The team still does not know if he can be the guy going forward.
Minnesota is among a handful of franchises that could realistically make a play for Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson who confirmed on Monday that he asked his team for a trade at the beginning of the month.

The Ravens did not honor Jackson’s request, but instead placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on their former MVP, allowing him to negotiate with other organizations. However, the Ravens retain the right to match any offer Jackson receives or command two first-round picks in trade.
If a team wants him, they may elect to just trade for him instead of putting in an offer sheet. With the draft being so close, most teams are likely unwilling to part ways with draft picks.
