Whatever goodwill Baker Mayfield garnered during the 2020 season and the playoffs did not last for 2021.
The Cleveland Browns are no strangers to drama during the 2021 NFL season and more was added when Emily Mayfield took to her Instagram story and spoke on death threats, lies and disrespect coming to the Cleveland quarterback through social media.
The struggles on the field have led to a 7-8 record going into the final two weeks of the season. While the team still has a very real shot at winning the AFC North, their quarterback can’t seem to escape the backlash from his own fan base.
On Thursday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked if the organization has addressed the threats to Mayfield. The head coach pointed out that there’s an excessive amount of “noise” about the former No.1 overall pick in general.
“As it rises to the level of [receiving death threats], certainly we can help address those type of things,” Stefanski said, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “Just in general, not specific to that, but in general there’s a lot of noise out there.”

Mayfield has been battling injuries this year that hasn’t helped his numbers. He completed just 62.4% of his passes for 2,825 yards with 15 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in 13 games this season.
Cleveland lost two games in one week, vs. Las Vegas on Monday in Week 15 and at Green Bay on Saturday in Week 16.
It’s shocking that they still have a shot going into Week 17. The team can rise from the No. 12 team in the AFC to the No. 4 in only two weeks. None of it matters if they cannot beat the Steelers and Bengals.
