The New Orleans Saints’ preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs came with some concerning news: Promising rookie running back Kendre Miller is injured.
Per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football, Saints’ head coach Dennis Allen stated that Miller suffered a sprained knee. Triplett’s colleague, Nick Underhill also reported the early belief is that the rookie running back “avoided a major injury”.
New Orleans defeated Kansas City 26-24, with third-stringer Jake Haener leading the way (10 completions for 105 yards and a touchdown. Jamaal Williams led all Saints in rushing with 28 yards on nine carries.
The 21-year-old Miller was drafted in the third round (71st overall) by New Orleans back in April. The Saints will be without Pro Bowl RB Alvin Kamara (suspended) for the first three games of the season, so Miller and Williams are expected to carry the heavy workload in the backfield without Kamara.
