It appears as though veteran running back Kareem Hunt will soon be taken off the free agent market.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported that Hunt and former Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr are both “expected to” join the New Orleans Saints, should both pass their physicals.
In the meantime, the 2017 rushing champion will meet with another club to see what they have to offer. Russini’s ESPN’s colleague, Adam Schefter, reported that Hunt will meet with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday.
On July 29, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Colts’ star running back Jonathan Taylor requested a trade after meeting with owner Jim Irsay. Taylor, who run the rushing title in 2021, is entering the final season of his rookie deal.

As such, it makes sense for the Colts to look at other running back options in case they end up having to trade Taylor. Their current RB depth chart consists of Taylor, Zack Moss, Deon Jackson, Evan Hull and Jake Funk.
Last week, the NFL handed a three-game suspension to Saints’ RB Alvin Kamara for his involvement in a February 2022 fight. In March, the Saints signed ex-Detroit Lion Jamaal Williams to a three-year deal worth $12 million.
With Kamara suspended, the Saints appear keen on pairing Hunt with the player who led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns a year ago. Williams also finished with a career-high 1,066 rushing yards in 2022.
