Super Bowl 57 wasn’t short on anything. Even the playing surface at the State Farm Stadium got in on the act as it provided no end of slips and falls.
That worked out pretty well for the Chiefs as the NFL ignored their complaints after they faced the Arizona Cardinals over there for Week 1 action. Recent analysis shows that the Eagles were more affected by the slippery pitch, significantly at that.
If the league had acted after KC’s concerns were brought forward, we might have seen a different result. But we’ll just never know.
Everyone who watched the game knew just how bad the surface was; at least they thought so. Some additional footage from the game shows that it was actually much worse than we all thought.
In the video below, you can see both Philly defensive ends slip, with Patrick Mahomes joining them. The Chiefs QB got the better deal, though. Another video shows Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave robbed of any stopping possibilities because he could not stay on his feet.
It’s quite a wonder how the NFL could put that much money and preparation into an event yet completely neglect the playing surface in spite of the early complaints.
