Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had an unexpected encounter with a well-known Houston Astros’ superfan at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
Jim McIngvale, the founder of Gallery Furniture in Houston, is known among the sporting world as as “Mattress Mack”. He has become a popular figure in the sports betting world due to the astronomical amounts of money he wagers.
In the clip below, Mattress Mack spoke to Mahomes and playfully teased the Chiefs superstar for costing him money by betting on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57. The 2022 league MVP. of course, was a good sport about the comment.
Mattress Mack won a ridiculous amount of $75 million by betting on the Houston Astros to win the 2022 World Series, which they did. Surely, his bank account will do just fine following one lost little bet.
The Eagles were a slim 1.5-point favorite over the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. But a heroic effort from Mahomes helped Kansas City squeak out a close 38-35 victory, claiming their second Super Bowl championship in four years.
Mahomes became the first quarterback to win the regular season MVP award and the Super Bowl in the same year since Hall of Famer Kurt Warner (then of the St. Louis Rams) accomplished the feat in 1999.
