The Kansas City Chiefs have placed one of their key offensive weapons on the injured reserve.
The defending Super Bowl champions announced on Monday that second-year wide receiver Skyy Moore has been placed on the injured reserve as he continues to nurse a knee injury. This means Moore will miss the Chiefs’ final three regular season games.
It’s a tough development for a Chiefs team that is sorely lacking production from wide receivers this year. The Western Michigan product and No. 54 pick of 2022 had 21 receptions for 244 yards and a touchdown before landing on the IR. He started in eight of the 14 contests he appeared in this season.
Aside from superstar tight end Travis Kelce and rookie wideout Rashee Rice, the Chiefs haven’t gotten much production out of their pass-catchers this year. Kadarius Toney has struggled with drops (not to mention that costly offside penalty against the Buffalo Bills last week), while Moore, Justin Watson (381 yards) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (312 yards) haven’t been able to find any consistency.
With Moore now out for the final three games, the Chiefs will really need their other pass-catchers to step up and help both Rice and Kelce. At 9-5, the Chiefs are on the verge of locking up an eighth straight AFC West division crown as well as a ninth straight postseason berth.
Coming off a 27-17 road win over the New England Patriots, KC will try to keep the momentum going when they host the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday.
