The Kansas City Chiefs have signed a former Pro Bowl running back to the practice squad.
Gordon informed ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that he’ll be signing with the AFC West leaders. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was first to report that the 29-year-old was “expected to” join Andy Reid’s team.
Gordon spent 10 games with the AFC West rival Denver Broncos, but the team released him after a Week 11 home loss to the Las Vegas Raiders after another costly fumble. A 2015 first-round pick of the Chargers, Gordon had 318 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Denver prior to his release.
Ball security has been a career issue for Gordon (26 in his career, five in 10 games this season). That said, he has been a consistent producer with the football, rushing for 800-plus yards in five of his eight NFL seasons.
Though the Chiefs boast the NFL’s highest-scoring offense (29.6 points per game), they rank in the bottom half of rushing (114.8 yards per game). So if he can protect the football, Gordon should only help improve KC’s running game.
