The Kansas City Chiefs have revealed that new wide receiver Marquise Brown will not suit up for them in Week 1.
The wideout, who suffered a shoulder injury in preseason, won’t get to make his debut for the reigning Super Bowl champions when they kick their 2024 campaign off against the Baltimore Ravens next Thursday night.
Head coach Andy Reid claimed that has made remarkable progress but is unfortunate in that the season opener comes too soon for him.
“Hollywood won’t be back this week and we’ll just see how it goes [from there],” Reid said, per ESPN. “But the kid’s amazing. I mean, his progress has been incredible, but I wouldn’t predict him being there this week.”
Marquise Brown’s Absence Should Not Impact The Kansas City Chiefs
Despite losing Marquise Brown to injury and cutting Kadarius Toney, the Chiefs have six other wide receivers on their active roster, including rookie Xavier Worthy, second-year star Rashee Rice, and returning pass-catcher JuJu Smith-Schuster, who signed for them this week.

Reid plans to play his other six receivers against the Ravens as quarterback Patrick Mahomes has worked out with all of them, including Smith-Schuster.
The latter was released by the New England Patriots earlier in the offseason and has since returned to the Chiefs after helping them win the Super Bowl in 2022/23.
“He looks great right now and he jumped right back in and had some good practices for us,” Reid noted. “So it’s just a matter of him getting banged around a little bit. … He’ll get all that as the season goes, but it’s good to have him back in the mix there, for sure.”
The head coach also discussed Worthy’s progress heading into his first season, claiming he likes what he’s seen so far.
“One that is unknown is Worthy having not played in an NFL game, a real NFL game other than a preseason game with him and practice,” Reid said. “But what I’ve seen is they have a pretty good thing going and we’ll just see how it goes when things are flying here fast and furious.”
It appears Marquise Brown could be returning to the field sooner than expected, but he won’t be playing in the opener vs. his former team.
