Kansas City Chiefs matriarch Norma Hunt has sadly passed away, according to a statement published by the team this week.
Norma, the mother of current chairman and CEO Clark Hunt and widow to founder Lamar Hunt, was 85 at the time of her passing. She held a deep connection with the Chiefs, as well as FC Dallas, the MLS team also owned by the family, and was a powerful presence where both were concerned.
“Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of our mother, Norma. She was a wonderful mother and an extraordinary woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew her,” the Hunt family announced.
“Kind, generous and unfailingly positive, mom was one of a kind. Her joy and zeal for life were infectious. She loved caring for others, and she always had an encouraging word. She was a loyal friend, the consummate hostess and she had a rare ability to make everyone she encountered feel valued and at ease.”
Norma also holds the record as the only woman to attend every single Super Bowl in NFL history and was in attendance when the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl 57 in February.
Norma Hunt Was Passionate About Sports
The Chiefs matriarch was passionate about both sports teams owned by the Hunt family and was by Lamar’s side through it all as she was around for the AFL/NFL merger, the formation of the MLS, World Championship Tennis, the North American Soccer League (NASL), and the investment leading to the founding of the Chicago Bulls.
“She was the only person we knew who rivaled his love of sports,” the Hunts’ statement adds. “The two of them found such joy together, whether at home, or in stadium stands around the world.”

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has also made a statement in which he extended condolences on behalf of the league.
“I was fortunate to know Norma for nearly 40 years and was always struck by her warmth and grace, her partnership with Lamar, and her pride in their family,” Goodell said. “Norma’s sense of family extended to the Chiefs’ organization which she greatly adored. Norma was one of the most passionate fans of the Chiefs and the NFL, and understood and enjoyed every aspect of the game.”
We at TotalProSports would like to extend commiserations to the Hunt family, Norma’s friends and loved ones, as well as the Chiefs organization.
