The Kansas City Chiefs are heading into training camp with multiple injuries.
The team’s rookies reported in on Tuesday, with veterans scheduled to join them on Saturday. But the defending Super Bowl champions have an important player out: guard Joe Thuney is still dealing with the pec injury sustained during the 2023 postseason.
Thuney is looking to get back into the swing of things, with head coach Andy Reid relaying his progress to reporters last month.
“Joe’s working his tail off and getting better,” Reid said. “We’ve got to see exactly how that thing works — we’ve got to get clearance from the doctor and that whole process that goes on as we go. But he’s making good progress. He’ll be one of those guys that’s kind of right on the border of whether he can go or not go from the healing part of it.”
The All-Pro star will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, but the Chiefs are confident he can start in Week 1, barring an injury setback. Thuney has been critical to the team’s success and is considered to be one of the best guards in the league.

Defensive end Charles Omenihu will start training camp on said list after suffering an ACL injury in the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens. Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi is also out for the time being with a triceps injury sustained during the playoffs.
Cornerback Jaylen Watson is also there following surgery on a torn labrum. At the same time, DE BJ Thompson is set to start training camp on the non-football injury list after suffering cardiac arrest during OTAs earlier this offseason.
