A blockbuster trade proposal has the Kansas City Chiefs bolstering their potent offense even further by acquiring a two-time Pro Bowler from a rival AFC team.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense didn’t meet its usual standards in 2023. But Patrick Mahomes and company saved their best for when it mattered most and led the team to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58 to complete the repeat.
Chiefs GM Brett Veach didn’t want to risk running it back with the same offense, so he improved the unit by signing Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown before using his first-round pick on Texas Longhorns speedster Xavier Worthy.
If there’s one more weak link in Kansas City’s offense, it’s the tackle position. Donovan Smith wasn’t retained following an inconsistent year, and Jawaan Taylor’s lucrative contract forced Kansas City to bring him back for another year.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine proposed a blockbuster trade idea that would see the Kansas City Chiefs shore up that weakness by landing Jack Conklin from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for 2025 third and fifth-round draft picks:
“One of the things that could quickly destroy the Chiefs’ repeat chances is their current situation at left tackle. The Chiefs are set to have a competition between Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia to determine the starter…
Ideally, the Chiefs would be able to add a veteran tackle to the mix. That’s tough to do this time of year, but the Browns have a unique situation that could open a window. Jack Conklin has been one of the better right tackles in the league, but an injury forced him out of the lineup last season, and rookie Dawand Jones looked good in his spot.
That could make the healthy Conklin expendable moving forward, and he’d provide stiff competition for Morris, Suamataia and right tackle Jawaan Taylor. Trading for Conklin would likely be costly in terms of draft capital but would create stability on the edges.”

The 30-year-old Conklin signed a four-year contract extension with the Browns worth $60 million late in the 2022 season. But as Ballentine pointed out, the stellar play of Dawand Jones last year following Conklin’s injury could make the latter available via trade.
Jack Conklin Would Make Kansas City’s Offense Unfair
The Chiefs offense already features the league’s best player in Patrick Mahomes, the No. 1 tight end in Travis Kelce and the top center in Creed Humphrey. Brown, Worthy, Rashee Rice and running back Isiah Pacheco can all post over 1,000 yards of offense, and Trey Smith and Joe Thuney are perhaps the best guard duo in football.
So if Kansas City were to acquire Conklin, their offense would be unfair and practically unstoppable. Imagine if Mahomes had four All-Pro-caliber linemen to go along with his improved set of weapons in a bid for a three-peat.
