The Kansas City Chiefs have gotten two offensive players back in training ahead of their divisional-round clash vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars.
According to the Kansas City Star’s Herbie Teope, designated running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and tight end Jody Fortson have returned to practice, leaving the Chiefs with 21 days to activate them.
Edwards-Helaire hasn’t played since November, the result of an ankle injury, but had already seen his job go under threat prior to that as Isiah Pachecho and Jerick McKinnon took up many of the snaps at RB. So, even if he is able to suit up for the remainder of the playoffs, he isn’t guaranteed to have an important role.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is happy to have CEH back, however.
“Anytime you get talented players back, it helps the whole team — not just the offense, but everybody,” he said, per Teope. “To have that energy in the locker room again, to have it on the football field and both those guys are special-type players.”
Clyde Edwards-Helaire Has Shown Flashes Of Brilliance Since Coming Out Of The First Round
The 23-year-old finished his rookie season with 1,100 yards in 2020 and has shown flashes of brilliance since then, though he’s had difficulty convincing folks due to his inconsistency.

As for Fortson, the tight end suffered an elbow injury in Week 15. He amassed 108 yards playing behind Travis Kelce and Noah Gray during the regular season.
