Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have been fast starters to the NFL season as they have won 8 straight season openers.
The defending champion Chiefs head into their opener Thursday night at home against Detroit with that streak, which is tied for the fifth-longest streak of the Super Bowl era.
Kansas City last lost in Week 1 back in 2014 with Alex Smith at quarterback in a game played before Mahomes had even made his college debut at Texas Tech.
They aren’t the only ones making their debut in 2023.
The cheerleaders are also ready for some action. The official Instagram account for the Chiefs’ cheerleaders posted a new photo on Instagram.
“It’s gameday,” the caption read. “Who’s ready?!”

They even put the shades on to get ready for the big season opener:
Mahomes has been particularly sharp to start the season, throwing at least three TD passes in all five season-opening starts in his career for the longest streak ever. That streak might come to an end as tight end Travis Kelce was ruled out for the Thursday night opener.
This will be Kelce’s first career game missed due to injury since 2013.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and go-to pass catcher for Patrick Mahomes hyperextended his knee in their last session in pads ahead of their season opener against the Detroit Lions on Thursday. Kelce has been far and away the best tight end in the NFL for several years.
The 33-year-old could ill afford to lose him for more than one game after losing their two starting wide receivers from last year with JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman leaving the team.
Mahomes is set to have his most inexperienced supporting cast around him this season and now it just got worse, for at least one game.
