Almost nothing went right for the Houston Texans in the first half of Sunday’s Week 4 home game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Things were so bad that the team’s usually reliable kicker, Ka’imi Fairbairn, missed horribly on what is easily the worst field goal attempt of his career. The play took place in the first quarter with the Chargers leading 7-0.
Indoor stadium. No bad weather conditions. A routine snap and hold. No contact on the ball from the Chargers’ special teams unit. Nothing but a brutal miss from Fairbairn.
It was certainly a half that the Texans would love to forget, to say the very least. Fairbairn was able to recover from the mishap, as he did make the extra point following Dameon Pierce’s 75-yard touchdown run.
The Chargers cruised to a 27-7 lead after 30 minutes. It looks like the Texans will remain winless through four weeks. The only other winless team, the Las Vegas Raiders, will aim for victory No. 1 on the year when they host the Denver Broncos in the late afternoon.
At halftime, the Bolts had 293 yards of offense against the Texans’ 157. Houston quarterback Davis Mills, enduring a tough sophomore year, was sacked twice and had just 76 passing yards and one interception.

Coming into Sunday’s game, Fairbairn was a perfect 7-for-7 on field goal attempts for the year, and he made all four of his extra point attempts. Let’s just say his first miss of the 2022 season is one he would love to forget.
Fairbairn has been with the Texans since 2017. Coming into Week 4, he had made 126 of 149 field goal attempts, and 165 of 181 extra point attempts.
The Texans will travel to Duval County next week to visit the Jacksonville Jaguars in an AFC South division showdown. The Chargers will continue their road trip with an early afternoon game against the Cleveland Browns.
