Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid confirmed that two of the team’s key starters will play in the season opener on Thursday.
Per Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Price, Reid said cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and wideout Kadarius Toney are “good to go” for the NFL Kickoff Game against the Detroit Lions. Both had been nursing knee injuries.
For the second time in four seasons, the Chiefs will play in the NFL Kickoff Game after winning Super Bowl 58 over the Philadelphia Eagles. They’re aiming to become the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the 2003 and ’04 New England Patriots.
The 26-year-old Sneed is coming off his best statistical season, having recorded three interceptions, 11 pass defenses, three forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks and 108 combined tackles.
Toney, a former first-round pick of the New York Giants back in 2021, was traded to the Chiefs in a midseason trade last year. He saved his best performance for the Super Bowl, hauling in a touchdown in the fourth quarter to go along with a 65-yard punt return to set up Skyy Moore’s four-yard TD reception.
