Justin Jefferson has earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in each of his first two seasons. This season, he now has his sights set on the league’s leading receiver: Rams wideout Cooper Kupp.
In a recent interview with NFL Network, the Minnesota Vikings wide receiver was talking about how excited he was to be in head coach Kevin O’Connell’s new offense and appeared to take a dig at Kupp in the process.
“Now I see why Coop was wide open so many times… It’s so wonderful being in this type of offense,” Jefferson said.
Jefferson said in July that Davante Adams is currently the league’s top receiver, but that he plans to take the belt from Adams this season. Last Thursday, Kupp was asked for his take on Jefferson overtaking Adams and, by extension, himself.
“I respect his opinion and I can also respectfully disagree,” the Rams receiver told reporters.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP made it clear that he wasn’t offended by Jefferson’s comments:
“I would hope he would say that,” Kupp said. “I think that’s the beauty of this game. I think it speaks to the competitiveness of this league. If you’re not putting yourself as the best, and you’re not working to be the best, then I’d be concerned about stepping on the field with you, if you don’t feel like you’ve prepared to be the best player that you can be.”
Jefferson’s already gotten off to a great start in his career. In 2020, he broke the rookie record with 1,400 receiving yards. Jefferson improved on that in 2021, recording 1,616 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns.
