Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was a topic of discussion on ESPN’s “First Take” this week and what they were saying caught the attention of superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson.
Jefferson took to Twitter and responded to a segment featuring Channing Crowder, Fred Taylor, and Ryan Clark. It included a clip of Crowder saying: “I’ve seen some weaknesses out of the Vikings and it’s on Kirk Cousins’ shoulders” that irked Jefferson.
“All of the Kirk criticism has to stop!!” Jefferson tweeted. “I understand y’all hate the dad swag but come on his numbers are right with y’all’s MVP candidates.”
Is Cousins an MVP candidate? By the numbers, you can make an argument.
Cousins has a reputation for failing to get the job done in big moments, but he has played great enough to lead the Vikings to a 12-3 record. He has thrown for 4,117 yards, 27 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Cousins is fifth in the NFL in passing yards and tied for fourth in touchdowns. However, his 51.0 QBR is only good enough for 20th, though, per ESPN.com.

His biggest moment this season was him having to help dig the Vikings out of a 33-0 deficit at the hands of the Colts. Cousins had gone 6-of-12 for 43 yards and an interception by halftime, but would then torch the Colts defense for 417 yards and four touchdowns in the second half.
As much as Cousins has done to bring an NFC North title to the Vikings, the conversation around him won’t stop until he delivers in the postseason.
