NFL insider Adam Schefter has floated a theory out there which suggests Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson could be out longer than expected.
Jefferson has been placed on the injured reserve following a hamstring injury suffered during his team’s 30-23 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. He will miss at least four games now that is on the IR, while the exact return timeline isn’t known and is contingent on how he responds to treatment.
According to Schefter, the player should be in no hurry to come back as the Vikings aren’t winning games this season, while he hasn’t gotten the contract he wants from the team. “His absence could last longer than expected,” the ESPN insider noted.
Jefferson sustained the injury after a slip on the turf while running a route and limped off to be assessed. He did not return to the game.
“We’ve got to get the MRI of it and take a look and find out exactly what it is, where it is, if there’s any other factors that go into it and determine what the best decision (is) for him to get him back to 100 percent as fast as possible,” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said after the loss.

While Jefferson remains out, rookie Jordan Addison will serve as the main pass-catching option for Kirk Cousins. Addison has recorded 19 receptions for 249 yards and three touchdowns so far this term.
