Veteran Justin Jackson, who was a special teams contributor last season and a likely contender to earn the No. 3 running back spot again this season, shockingly decided to retire. He is 27.
Jackson retiring is a bit of a surprise, as he appeared to have solidified himself a spot on the roster based on his experience and special teams contributions.
Jackson may have been contemplating retirement this offseason as he was such a late off-season signing with the team, joining them just days before training camp began.
Jackson is a former seventh-round pick of the Chargers back in 2018.

In 2022, Jackson appeared in 16 games for the Lions and rushed for 170 yards to go along with 12 receptions for 101 yards receiving and two total touchdowns.
