The Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders both said they would not play for a tie tonight, even though it would have assured them both a spot in the playoffs.
However, their tune seemed to be changing as their Sunday Night Football contest went on. And after both teams went to overtime and exchanged field-goals in the extra frame, it seemed like both teams were more than happy to play for a tie. Heck, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert could even be seen saying that much on the sideline.
After Brandon Staley called an inexcusable timeout late in overtime, cameras cut to Herbert who was seen saying, “I’ve never wanted a tie so bad.”
Unfortunately, Staley’s timeout was a costly one, as it gave the Raiders enough time to run some extra plays, get into field goal range, and kick the game winner to eliminate the Chargers from the postseason.
