Justin Herbert has played his last snap of the 2023 season.
The 2023 NFL season has been bad for the Los Angeles Chargers, and it went from bad to worse on Sunday. Quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a fractured index finger on his throwing hand that caused him to leave the game against the Denver Broncos
On Tuesday, it was announced Herbert was going to miss the remainder of the 2023 season.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Herbert will have surgery to repair his broken index finger on Tuesday and be sidelined for the rest of the year.
Without Herbert the rest of the way on Sunday, Los Angeles went on to lose 24-7 and fall far down the ladder for AFC wild-card contention.

Given the Chargers tumbling behind six teams that are 7-6 in the AFC wild-card standings, Herbert being out was the best decision going forward.
Herbert’s season will end with him passing for 3,134 yards this season, 20 touchdowns, and a 63.8 quarterback rating.
He appeared to be well on his way to a second Pro Bowl appearance, though he would not be available to attend the festivities anyway.
