A doctor has suggested that the Chicago Bears are not being entirely truthful about Justin Fields’ injury.
The quarterback seems to have avoided a serious problem after dislocating his right thumb in the Bears’ Week 6 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, with head coach Matt Eberflus revealing on Friday that he’s making good progress.
“He’s improving. Mobility is getting better, swelling going down. Grip strength is better,” Eberflus told reporters. “He’s trending in the right direction. He’ll be week-to-week. We’ll know more on Monday.”
The HC insisted that the team doesn’t view the injury as one that will keep him out for very long or require surgery.
“We are not on that path right now. We are trending in the right direction,” Eberflus added.
Jesse Morse, a sports medicine doctor and regenerative specialist, has taken to social media to suggest that the team’s assessment isn’t adding up as a dislocation would mean ligament tears and ligament tears would mean surgery.

“Something’s not adding up with #DaBears Justin Fields’ thumb,” he shared on X. “If he truly dislocated it, then there is associated ligament tears. I would LOVE to hear which specific joint he injured and the severity of the ligament damage.”
Meanwhile, Fields has not attempted throwing yet because he has no grip strength. Once he is able to grip the football again, the team will be able to put a timeline on his return based on the speed at which he throws it.
