The Chicago Bears are rumored to be considering a trade for Justin Fields that would complement their tanking for the next NFL Draft amid their early-season implosion.
Things haven’t quite worked out as planned in Chicago this season. Widely thought to have “won the offseason” after trading the No. 1 overall pick to the Carolina Panthers, the Bears have come off looking worse, leaving general manager Ryan Poles with a whole lot of egg on his face.
Like many, the GM expected that Fields’ improvement last season, coupled with all of the offseason moves, would have Chicago looking like contenders in 2023. Instead, they’re 1-5 in their first six games, with hopes of making the playoffs already over.
Fields sustained a thumb injury against the Minnesota Vikings during their Week 6 matchup and is doubtful for the Week 7 fixture against the Las Vegas Raiders. According to the NFL Notifications account on X, the Bears could move to trade their starting QB based on what they see from his backup, Tyson Bagent, during his absence.
The account adds that “a small firesale” could be coming as the Bears are believed to be getting ready to tank for the next draft.

However, things could get complicated as Fields’ value is thought to be closer to a third-round pick than a second-round pick despite the QB putting in excellent performances in his last two outings prior to his injury.
