One of Tom Brady’s favorite targets was one of the first to chime in amid news the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback was hanging up his cleats and riding off into the sunset.
Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman tweeted minutes after ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington reported Brady was retiring, which we later found out wasn’t true:
“Thanks for the memories, babe. @TomBrady,” Edelman tweeted.
“Can’t a guy thank another guy for the memories without everyone thinking he’s retiring!?”
Brady, who is currently out of the country according to Patriots insider Tom E. Curran, has yet to formally make an announcement and told Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on Saturday that he “wasn’t close” to reaching a decision on his football future, per ESPN’s Jenna Laine.

Tom Brady Sr. also quickly threw cold water on the news as well.
Edelman caught 41 touchdown passes from Brady across the regular season and post-season.
If Brady does decided he wants to step away from the game, he does so after a season in which he established himself as a leading MVP candidate after leading the NFL in touchdowns (43), passing yards (5,316) and completions (485).
