Former Patriots receiver Julian Edelman shared a memorable story about speaking to 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan but it happened at the most unlikiest place.
During Week 6’s Fox NFL Kickoff pregame show, the panelists each named the coach doing the best job thus far and Edelman picked Shanahan who is the coach of the previously unbeaten 49ers.
He then recalled the time the San Francisco 49ers head coach approached him in the men’s room at Super Bowl LII in 2018. The 11-year pro couldn’t play with the Patriots in Super Bowl LII due to a torn ACL but was at the game as a spectator.
“I’m sitting there in the bathroom at the Super Bowl, and this guy starts talking to me about a whip route that I ran in the Super Bowl the year before,” said Edelman, who could not play in Super Bowl LII due to a torn ACL.
“I’m like, what is this guy doing? I’m full out and everything. What are we doing here? So I go to wash my hands, the guy comes up to me and goes, ‘You don’t know who I am.'”
Shanahan had lost to Edelman in the Super Bowl the year before as the offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers.
From there, the conversation among the Kickoff crew–including Charles Woodson, Michael Vick, and Peter Schrager turned into a bunch of hilarious puns.
